Glasper, Riggins & Common drop new single as August Greene
Common, Robert Glasper and drummer/producer Karriem Riggins have teamed up to form August Greene, and they've already released their first song. A cover of Sounds of Blackness' Optimistic, the track features vocals by both Common and Brandy.
In describing the project, Riggins says “I feel like we need to set the bar for this generation of musicians and producers...There’s a lot of computer-driven music. This is the opposite of that. We’re showing you can still use your creative muscle on an instrument to generate your own sound.”
The single is available on Amazon, and the track will also appear on their debut album, August Greene, scheduled for a March 9th release via Amazon Original. The song also features contributions from bassist Burniss Travis and film score composer Samora Pinderhughes. Listen to the song below.
The trio collaborated in the past on the Emmy Award winning song Letter to the Free, for the Ava DuVernay documentary 13th.
