B-Boy B-Girl Summit: Hip-Hop (Re)Present
The iconic B-Boy Summit returns to Los Angeles this weekend complete with panels, performances, showcases and a hip-hop marketplace. The free all-ages event will take place over 2 days with a Pre-Party/Art Show taking place Friday.
The theme for this years Summit is "Hip-Hop (Re)Present". Founder Asia One explained, "representing is a key factor in Hip-Hop. Essentially Hip-Hop demands that we (re) present ourselves continually evolving, refining, and defining ourselves in the culture. In this way we are always (re)presenting ourselves throughout our journey in Hip-Hop as we mature. Featuring local, national, and international Bboys, Bgirls, MCs, DJs, Graffiti Artists, practitioners, activists, and educators who are empowering marginalized communities around the globe through Hip-Hop, by supporting the education, enrichment and cultivation of local Hip-Hop artists, especially youth, women and people of color".
Hosts and moderators for the event include Asia-One, Comfort Fedoke, MC Dent and Frankie D among others, with panelists coming from all corners of the hip-hop spectrum. Legends like Rakaa (Dilated Peoples/Rocksteady Crew), DJ Mark Luv, Medusa and Carmelita Sanchez (The Wake Up Show) will be among those speaking and sharing their experience with educational segments including talks by Rachel Noelle, B-Girl Wonda, April Fresh, and Dr.'s Alabi & Wright.
The Summit wouldn't be complete without the the battles. There will be no shortage of dancing this year between the Bonnie & Clyde Battle of the Sexes Superjam, the Funk Styles Room, Popping Battles and raw ciphers.
The B-Boy Summit is a free all-ages event. The Summit will begin Saturday, July 21st at Sunset Studio, 6611 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. Day Two will take place at the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory located at 2708 East Cesar E Chavez Avenue #101, Los Angeles, CA 90033.
