KCRW and the Annenberg Foundation's signature concert series returns this year with Grammy-winning R&B artist Miguel, the legendary Paul Oakenfold and guitar-slinging duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. The free (with RSVP), all-ages summer events at Century Park also feature access to the Generation Wealth exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography.
Hosted by KCRW's Anthony Valadez, the Sound in Focus summer concert series will kick off Saturday, July 15th with performances by Grammy-winning R&B artist Miguel and Stones Throw Records multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Garzón-Montano. DJ duties for the evening will be handled by Stretch & Bobbito's own Stretch Armstrong.
The following Saturday, July 22nd, the series continues with performances by legendary producer/DJ Paul Oakenfold, East LA-based troubadour Mondo Cozmo and LA's Lo Moon. KCRW's Jason Bentley will handle DJ sets for the evening.
The series will wrap up Saturday, July 29th, with performances by guitar-slinging duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their debut album, seven-time Latin Grammy winner Natalia Lafourcade, and DJ sets by KCRW's José Galván.
The event takes place in Century Park in the centerpiece park adjacent to the Annenberg Space for Photography. Last year's edition of the series brought thousands out for headlining performances by hip-hop heavyweight Nas, Senegalese artist Baaba Mal and more.
In addition to the performances, attendees will have the opportunity to check out the Annenberg Space for Photography's Generation Wealth exhibit by Emmy Award®-winning filmmaker and photographer Lauren Greenfield. The exhibit is described as examining "the influence of affluence over the last 25 years, illustrating the globalization of materialism, celebrity culture and social status."The multimedia exhibit incorperates color-saturated prints, interviews and the accompanying multimedia projections and short films.
The all ages events are free with RSVP and are scheduled to run from 5pm - 10pm with the exhibits closing at 11pm. One wristband will be distributed per person at check-in and there will be no ins & outs. Self parking is available for $1.00 in Century Park's underground garage, carpool/Uber/Lyft strongly encouraged.
