Thursday, July 28, the 20th anniversary season of the Sunset Concerts series at The Skirball Cultural Center continues with Sudanese-American singer and multi-instrumentalist Sinkane. The Brooklyn-based artist is expected to perform tracks from his forthcoming 2017 album as well as tunes from his extensive catalogue.
Born Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab, Sikane was born in London, England before moving to Sudan, where he lived until moving to Ohio in United States at age 5. A session musician in his early career, his style has been described as a blend of krautrock, free jazz, and funk rock with Sudanense pop. His most recent solo album, 2014's Mean Love, was described as "outstanding, style-hopping pop" by The Guardian. The project featured notable appearances from Talking Heads' David Byrne, members of LCD Soundsystem and Beastie Boy's collaborator Money Mark.
Referring to the album he's currently working on, Sinkane sounded excited when he recently tweeted that it was "really coming together".

Early warm up duties for the evening will be handled by Peaking Lights Acid Test (P/LSD), performing a "live instrumental disco dub" version of Peaking Lights songs and other original dancefloor friendly material.
