Hip-hop legend Slick Rick and actor/musician Idris Elba join forces on their new single Badman Generation, out now on all streaming platforms with a powerful video directed by Meji Alabi (Beyoncé, Wizkid, Burna Boy).
The track serves as a bonus release from Rick’s visual album VICTORY, his first LP in 26 years, executive produced alongside Elba and released earlier this summer via 7WALLACE Records and Mass Appeal.
Recorded at Elba's London studio, Badman Generation blends a dancehall/reggae vibe with Slick Rick's signature storytelling. Shot on Brixton's iconic Electric Avenue, the video taps into the style, grit, and cultural energy of late '70s/early '80s South London, paying homage to Rick's Jamaican roots and the city's Afro-Caribbean community.
"Badman Generation is style, strength, and storytelling—rooted in the brotherhood between Idris and I, infused with the grit and glory of South London," said Slick Rick. Elba added, "This is actually who we are and what we experienced in life—our influences were us."
Building on the themes of VICTORY, the release continues Rick's exploration of reggae influences, soundsystem culture, and diasporic storytelling, connecting generations across hip-hop and dancehall.
In addition to its digital release, Badman Generation is also available as a limited-edition 7" vinyl via Mass Appeal's store.
