Talib Kweli, ASC Mark Ferguson Anniversary with Free Show


Talib Kweli's Action Support Committee, made up of artists, organizers and activists, will be hosting "Ferguson Is Everywhere", a free concert taking place August 9th at Fubar in St. Louis, MO. The event marks the one year anniversary of 18 year-old Michael Brown's death, and will be hosted by Tory Russell, co-founder of both Hands Up United & Youth Lead Organization. Performances are set to include Talib Kweli, Kendra Ross, M1 (Dead Prez), Tef Poe, Bun B, Jasiri X, Immortal Technique, Pharoahe Monch & DJ Needlez.

It's been asked that people bring canned goods for donations to Hands Up United's Food Pantry, donations will also be taken for the family of Michael Brown.[...]

Black Eyed Peas Video Controversy?


The Black Eyed Peas surprised everyone on Friday debuting a new single and video for the song "Yesterday" on Apple Music, which pays tribute to a number of old school hip hop classics. One person who we're guessing wasn't thrilled was the venerable soul songstress Erykah Badu. Miss Badu took to social media today to point out the similarities between the new Peas' video and her video for the song "Honey", the lead single from her 2008 album "New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)".

RTJ's El-P Scores "Fantastic Four" Credits


While many of us may be torn about the August 7th release of the Fantastic Four reboot, there is something to look forward to in addition to the post credit scene every Marvel movie promises. Director Josh Trank recently revealed that Run The Jewels' El-P helped to score the end credits. El-P went on to confirm his involvement, adding that he created a new piece for the movie with contributions from Little Shalimar.[...]

Talib Kweli's Surprise Train of Thought


Earlier this week Talib Kweli released an entire album of rarities, B-sides and never-before-heard material available exclusively through his website, without any prior notice. "Train of Thought: Lost Lyrics, Rare Releases & Beautiful B-Sides Vol. 1" includes twelve tracks of unearthed gems that feature Common, Killer Mike and Yasiin Bey just to name a few. The songs are being described as having been kept in storage, finished for various projects but unreleased until today, including an unreleased Black Star cut, "Bright as Stars". Production credits on the surprise LP include Hi Tek, Kanye, DJ Quik and Dave West among others.
